A touching story of the power of friendship : One day, when I was a
freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It
looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday?
He must really be a nerd." I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my
friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on. As I was walking, I saw
a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed
in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw
this terrible sadness in his eyes. My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled
around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks.
They really should get lives." He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!" There was a big smile on his face.It was one of those
smiles that showed real gratitude. I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it
turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before
now. I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. We talked all the way home, and
I carried some of his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with
my friends. He said yes. We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought
the same of him. Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. I stopped
him and said, "Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!" He just laughed and handed
me half the books. Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. When we were seniors,
we began to think about college. Kyle decided on Georgetown, and I was going to Duke. I knew that we would always be friends,
that the miles would never be a problem. He was going to be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship. Kyle
was valedictorian of our class. I teased him all the time about being a nerd. He had to prepare a speech for graduation. I
was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak. Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of
those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more
dates than I had and all the girls loved him. Boy, sometimes I was jealous. Today was one of those days.
I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!"
He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. "Thanks," he said. As he
started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began. "Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through
those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends. I am here to tell
all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story." I
just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over
the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying
his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. "Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved
me from doing the unspeakable." I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy
told us all about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful
smile. Not until that moment did I realize it's depth. Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one
small gesture you can change a person's life.
GOOD IDEA OF A FRIEND
1.
In kindergarten your idea of a good friend was the person who let you have the red crayon when all that was left was the ugly
black one. 2. In first grade your idea of a good friend was the person who went to the bathroom with you and held your
hand as you walked through the scary halls. 3. In second grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you
stand up to the class bully. 4. In third grade your idea of a good friend was the person who shared their lunch with you
when you forgot yours on the bus. 5. In fourth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who was willing to switch
square dancing partners in gym so you wouldn't have to be stuck do-si-do-ing with Nasty Nicky or Smelly Susan. 6. In fifth
grade your idea of a friend was the person who saved a seat on the back of the bus for you. 7. In sixth grade your idea
of a friend was the person who went up to Nick or Susan, your new crush, and asked them to dance with you, so that if they
said no you wouldn't have to be embarrassed. 8. In seventh grade your idea of a friend was the person who let you copy
the social studies homework from the night before that you had. 9. In eighth grade your idea of a good friend was the
person who helped you pack up your stuffed animals and old baseball cards so that your room would be a "high schooler's" room,
but didn't laugh at you when you finished and broke out into tears. 10. In ninth grade your idea of a good friend was
the person who went to that"cool" party thrown by a senior so you wouldn't wind up being the only freshman there. 11.
In tenth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who changed their schedule so you would have someone to sit with
at lunch. 12. In eleventh grade your idea of a good friend was the person who gave you rides in their new car, convinced
your parents that you shouldn't be grounded, consoled you when you broke up with Nick or Susan, and found you a date to the
prom. 13. In twelfth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pick out a college, assured you that
you would get into that college, helped you deal with your parents who were having a hard time adjusting to the idea of letting
you go. 14. At graduation your idea of a good friend was the person who was crying on the inside but managed the biggest
smile one could give as they congratulated you. 15. The summer after twelfth grade your idea of a good friend was the
person who helped you clean up the bottles from that party, helped you sneak out of the house when you just couldn't deal
with your parents, assured you that now that you and Nick or you and Susan were back together, you could make it through anything,
helped you pack up for college and just silently hugged you as you looked through blurry eyes at 18 years of memories you
were leaving behind, and those last days of childhood, went out of their way to give you reassurance that you would make it
in college as well as you had these past 18 years, and most importantly sent you off to college knowing you were loved. 16.
Now, your idea of a good friend is still the person who gives you the better of the two choices, hold your hand when you're
scared, helps you fight off those who try to take advantage of you, thinks of you at times when you are not there, reminds
you of what you have forgotten, helps you put the past behind you but understands when you need to hold on to it a little
longer, stays with you so that you have confidence, goes out of their way to make time for you, helps you clear up your mistakes,
helps you deal with pressure from others, smiles for.you when they are sad, helps you become a better person, and most importantly
loves you!

Our friends are like angels, Who brighten our days. In all kinds of wonderful, Magical ways.
Their thoughtfulness comes, As a gift from above. And we feel we're surrounded, By warm, caring love.
Like upside-down rainbows, Their smiles bring the sun. And they fill ho-hum moments, With laughter and
fun.
Friends are like angels, Without any wings. Blessing our lives, With the most precious things.
OATH
TO MY FRIEND When you are sad,........ I will get you drunk and help you plot revenge against the scum sucking bastard
who made you sad.
When you are scared,..... I will laugh at you and tease you about it every chance I get, Then I
will make sure you know you're never alone.
When you are worried,.... I will tell you how much worse it could be and
to quit complaining, then I will hug you, and tell you it'll be ok.
When you are confused,... I will use little words
to explain it to your dumb ass.
And when you are lost,... I will answer my cell phone and give you directions.
When
you are sick........ I will hold your hair while you pay homage to the porcelain god.
When you fall............ I
will point and laugh at your clumsy ass. Then I will hold out my hand and help you up.
This is my oath: I pledge till
the end. Why you may ask? Because you're my friend, and the whole reason people have friends is to have fun,and to know that
even in your darkest hour, you're never alone.
YOU'RE MY FRIEND
You're... My friend, my companion,
through good times and bad my friend, my buddy, through happy and sad, beside me you stand, beside
me you walk, you're there to listen, you're there to talk, with happiness, with smiles, with pain and
tears, I know you'll be there, throughout the years!
You are all good friends to me and I am grateful to you.
A HUG FOR YOU ALL,
If I could catch a rainbow
I would do it just for you
And share with you it's beauty
On the days you're feeling blue
If I could build a mountain
You could call your very own
A place to find serenity
A place to be alone
If I could take your troubles
I would toss them in the sea
but all these things
I'm finding are impossible for me
I cannot build a mountain
Or catch a rainbow fair
But let me be what I know best
A friend that's always there.
